Four Sad Faces - New BBC 7 Radio Show

I spent this evening with Tom Critchlow, watching the recording of the new radio show on BBC7 - 4 Sad Faces.

Judging from the many, many sad faces that left the BBC Theatre when they had the chance, this is not a show that's got a great future ahead of it. The four writer-performers appeared to not only lack any comedic writing skills, but also had no appreciation of how to present comic material.

I don't think they are to blame. There are plenty of people who are not funny - and none of them can be blamed for that. I'd suggest that either:

  • they have a lot of friends who turn up to their gigs, but not one has the heart to say "Stop it. Stop doing it now."
  • some young BBC 7 comedy commissioner was so keen to discover the next big thing, that they went to Edinburgh, and signed the first people the saw,
  • or:

  • my comedy radar was off tonight, and these four are the funniest thing since last year's funniest thing.

Only time will tell, for 4 Sad Faces.
